It seems most voice actors are into radio, commercials, cartoons and anime around here, and I was wondering if there is anyone here with video game voice acting experience that would like to share some, and maybe how they broke into that business.

Living in Norway, there's not much market for voice overs, most dubs are done by tv personalities with annoying voices, but there are some up and coming game developing studios including some big ones like Funcom. Working in the gaming industry has always been kind of a dream to me, and so has voice acting. Doing both at the same time would be awesome.

I havn't done any of that, but at the cartoon voice panel at comic-con they talked specifically about doing video games. They say it is one of the hardest & most tedious things to do, especially these days. They gave the example of doing a violent game, and you repeatedly have to die, acting it out over and over, for 30 different deaths. Repetition seemed to be what made it difficult, having to say the same things over and over, hundreds of times, in different ways.

I also think it would be fun to do eventually, but probably not a good starting point. It would be best to find some simple VO work first and work up to that, although it may not actually be as fun as it sounds.

Wow, thanks! Now I'm even more interested in the voice acting profession, but the whole agent part scares me. Agents sound costly, and I'm not sitting on a lot of money at the moment. I'm getting by, but just barely.

Hehe, well I suppose you can live in many ways, but also die in many as well.
